Finally tried the cookie shot at Dominque Ansel Bakery. Super sweet and so glad now that I split it with both Debbie and Nicole. Really inventive idea but the execution is so sweet - the milk becomes chocolate milk and in my opinion is just way too much for one person to reasonably enjoy.

Brunch at Hundred Acres in NYC
We had Book Club at Hundred Acres in SoHo. Really good food and beautiful space with a huge roof window and lots of light. Unfortunately took quite awhile to seat us despite everyone being there and a reservation. Also the waiter said he'd give me my cold brew for free because it took so long, but after paying realized he had charged me. Still, the food was really good and huge portions. Maybe would come back at a less hectic time because the service was just okay.
Cinnamon Rolls to share - also well done though not as inventive as the beignets
Kavita and Debbit got the Bacon Egg and cheese open-faced sandwich on sourdough. Looked really good
Nicole, Tracy and I each got this dish. Now I can't find it on the menu but was basically like a shwarma platter but open faced - pita, meat, veggies, fries and tzatziki sauce
Breakfast from Choc-o-Pain in Jersey City, NJ
Choc-o-Pain has become a weekend ritual. Walk the dogs (or drive sometimes) and got some delicious quiche, pastries, and iced coffee. Have never had anything bad here. Sometimes try new things but usually we got back to the usual kouign-amon, choc-o-pain and quiche lorraine. Why mess when it's so good?
All our food
Kouign amon (apple an raspberry), choc-o-ain and now I can't remember but some other delicious pastry
Quiche Lorraine - ham, cheese, and bacon inside. Best!
Dinner at Queens International Night Market in Corona, NY
We trekked out to Corona for the Queen's International Night Market. There were maybe 20 vendors there? Thought there would be more but I think if there were more, it would've been too overwhelming. There was a pretty heavy variety of Asian vendors, which being that we were in Queens, is not surprising. Tried a lot of different things and everything was under $5 which was great. Won't lie, it was pretty hot that night and by the end of a few games of Cornhole, we were all pretty drenched in sweat. Glad we came, but maybe better to come back in October when it's not 90+ degrees out.
Squid Skewers at Mama Food - great grilled squid. She asked if we wanted spicy and I said yes, and whatever she put on it made those pieces BURN. In a good way though
Takoyaki (octopus balls) from Karl's Balls - not my fav dish but well prepared. Long lines there normally
Duck Bao from C Bao - delicious
Pork Belly Bao from C Bao - also amazing. Loved the peanut crunch
Panda Bubble Tea from Panda Cafe - so kewt
Pork Belly skewer from Teinei Ya - good but not super memorable
Two chicken kati roll wraps, one spicy and one not (though both were kinda spicy) from Kati Roll Shack
Tostones Nachos - chicken, sofrito, guacamole, sour cream and cheese
Brunch at Continental at Atlantic City, NJ
For brunch, Kookie and I went to Continental, which was inside this mall with an amazing view of the beach. Unfortunately we couldn't sit next to the window because those seats were for a separate restaurant, but it was beautiful inside and we had delicious meal. Again, considering how inflated the prices can be in AC, a very reasonably-priced meal that was well-done. We split out entrees, which was great because had 1/2 ethnic meal, 1/2 super american and traditional brunch-y.
Huevos Rancheros - chorizo, black beans, avocado crema, tostado, and heirloom tomato salsa. Totally different type of dish but still delish
Dinner at Kwi Noodle House in Atlantic City, NJ
My cousin and I were in Atlantic City for a nostalgic '90s concert. We went to Kwi for a quick dinner beforehand and were pleasantly surprised by how delicious and not uber-expensive the food was. Tasted pretty genuine and was a great cushion for the rest of the evening.
Cantonese Fried Pork Dumplings with ginger sauce - tasty. Nothing incredible but not too greasy
Lobster Fried Rice - really delicious with big pieces of lobster throughout. Only $22, and considering how much there was, pretty good deal
Bulkalbi - garlic-marinated korean short ribs with kim chi. The best!
Dinner at Talde in Jersey City, NJ
Dan and I went to Talde for Ssam Tuesday. Menu changes weekly but excellent deal of meat entree with lots of sides, dessert, and small pitcher of booze for only $45 for two people! This week they had a Korean Fried Chicken meal which was amazing.
Pitcher of Bourbon Blackberry Limeade - so refreshing and perfect summer drink
Whole Korean fried chicken with nectarines and kimchi yogurt comes with potato salad, fried green beans with buttermilk ranch, coconut brown butter brushed corn bread, and braised kale with bacon |
Close up for Korean Fried Chicken with nectarines - perfectly fried and loved the nectarines as an accompaniment
Closeup of kale, corned bread (FAV) and fried green beans
Green beans were delish
Potato salad and spicy sauce for dipping the chicken
Plate of everything! Yum
