Lunch from Chicks Isan in Brooklyn, NY
Tried another spot in Dekalb Market - Chicks Isan, which is a Thai spot that's been blowing up online. It was delicious but very filling and a bit heavy.
Home-made mushroom soup
Dan made a delicious mushroom soup out of maybe 4 different types of mushrooms. The stock was so flavorful and rich for being 100% veggie. Lots of umami. Very tasty and filling with french bread.
Breakfast at Pretty Bird in Yardley, PA
Dan and I went to a super cute cafe in Yardley that I had seen on Foodbaby. The biscuit breakfast sandwich was amazing. And of course since we were in the NJ area, we got Taylor Ham on it. Delicious and very cute spot. At night apparently they have sushi, which is a little weird, but the reviews of that also were positive so maybe will try some time.
Freshly made blueberry donut. Tasty though why are the all the donuts in this town cake? |

Wonderful breakfast sammie - egg, taylor ham and cheese on freshly baked biscuit |
Snack from Factory Donuts in Newtown, PA
Dinner at Vecchia Osteria in Newtown, PA
Dan and I went to Vecchia Osteria near his folks' house for a delicious Italian dinner. We had a reservation though and still took awhile to get seated. The place, for good reason, is always pretty busy. Service is wonderful and such a bargain. Plus they make the best tiramisu any of us have ever had.
Complimentary veggies and bread to start |
Wonderful arugula salad with grilled calamari and shrimp lemon dressing |
Ravioli shrimp crab in brandy cream sauce |
Baked agnolotti with peas and ricotta in bolognese |
All the pasta. Both were wonderful though ravioli a bit richer |
The agnolotti was HUGE. Lasted for multiple meals |
Dinner at Emmett's in NYC
Claire and I went to Emmett's in the East Village for a Chicago-inspired dinner. Basically an entire dinner of cheese. The place is super small, and we didn't have a reservation so sat at the bar. The food came out pretty quickly and was awesome. Definitely reminded me that Chicago pizza is a different beast altogether than NY style. Nice every once in a while but there's a reason that NY pizza is the go-to slice.
Mozzarella sticks to start the meal |

Brunch from Buddy Who's in Jersey City, NJ
Buddy Who's is definitely one of our go-to brunch spots in JC. They recently updated their menu which was fun to try some new things. Hope this place stays around for awhile because a solid, fun brunch option.

Desset from Choc-o-pain in Jersey City, NJ
After getting pizza, we stopped by Choc-o-pain, which is literally next door to Low Fidelity. Picked up some kougin amon and I got the pisachio cake, which was delicious and citrusy and nutty. A tiny bit dry but delicious with coffee.
Brunch at Low Fidelity in Jersey City, NJ
Dan and I finally made it to Low Fidelity in the Heights. They have a detroit style pizza in a hipster vibe in a part of JC that used to be a bit less gentrified. It wasn't very crowded when we got there so we sat at the bar. The pizza was wonderful. Super buttery and crispy crust and wonderful combos. I wish it were closer but maybe good that it's not because I would go there all the time.
Delicious and fun tiki style drinks |
The Vermont Truckstop - Scrambled farm egg, maple sausage, smoked bacon and brick cheese. Soooo insanely good |
Look at that crust! |
The Vegilante - charred broccoli, pickled red onion, roasted red peppers, sauteed mushrooms and vegan pesto cream |
Lunch from Blue Park Kitchen in NYC
I got lunch from Blue Park Kitchen a few times recently. The food is delicous, fresh, and has some legit hearty combos. Unfortunately way too expensive to eat daily as I spent $15-20 per bowl, and the lightness of the food is such that I can actually finish in one sitting. It's a nice treat but can't eat there too often.
Bowl 1 - blackened chicken, coconut bulgur, grilled kale, mixed mushrooms, grilled asparagus, radish, toasted chickpeas, lemon vinaigrette and avocado smash |
Bowl 2: Aloo Tiki and Mixed Mushrooms - red quinoa, baby greens, yogurt dill tahina, aloo tiki, mixed mushrooms, charred pickled onions and radish |
Delicious mix of curry and shrooms. And no meat |
Dessert from Breads Bakery in NYC
Breads Bakery has been all over instagram, so ended up going there for a sneak pre-movies at Union Square. I got some rugleach, which was good but not mind-blowing. They had other pastries and breads that probably are more worth it, but I had just had a big lunch so didn't want to overeat.
Lunch at Adda Indian Canteen in Long Island City, NY
Dan and I went to Long Island City to eat at a super popular Indian restaurant. Despite it being towards the end of brunch time, it was still pretty crowded, and full of both Indian and non-Indian folks. The food was wonderful, but VERY spicy. Like too much for me haha. Dan enjoyed it though we were upset that they didn't have samosas for lunch. Oddly only during the weekday lunches.
Aloo Chana Chaat - Fingerling potato tots, chickpeas, chutneys |
Not warm but very good |
Tandoori Gobi - Cauliflower, garlic, ginger, Amul cheese |
Dan was so happy they had goat Lucknow Dum |
This was SO spicy |
Naan as a calming aspect of the meal |

Home-made turnip patties w/sausage and peppers
We got a bunch of turnips in a friend's CSA box, so I found a receipt for mashed potato and turnip cakes, and used that as my inspiration for the meal. The cakes/patties were almost latke-esque, and tasted great with the trader joe's chicken apple sausage and green peppers. A surprisingly great meal.
Home-made fish and veggies
Had lots of tilapia so made that along with potatoes and some salad for a healthy-ish dinner. Not quite sure if potatoes and fish necessarily go together in the traditional sense, but to me it tasted good and felt balanced.
Lunch at EAK Ramen in NYC
Jordan and I got some delicious ramen at EAK Ramen, which apparently is a big chain in Japan that only recently opened up some spots in NYC. The ramen was delicious and came out super quick. I particularly was a fan of the black garlic oil. Great ramen spot and inexpensive as well.
The EAK Shoyu - pork and chicken broth, pork chasu, spinach and nori and I added garlic oil |
